FIGURING OUT FISH OILS
There are hundreds of supplements on the market that make outrageous claims around health benefits and what they can do for the body. While most of the synthetic ones making the most insane promises of burning fat while you sleep or without other effort, there’s one that lives up to all of its promises: fish oils.
Fish Oil, or Omega 3 Fatty Acids, are the most important supplement you can add to your diet. Here’s the top three reasons why they’re your best health-supplement-bet:
1. They have a positive effect on any disease known to man, including (but not limited to): coronary heart disease, cardiac arrhythmia, hypertension, stroke, bipolar disorder, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, ulcerative colitis, all the way through to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), dyslexia, and dyspraxia. Fish oils are also used orally for weight loss, asthma, cancer, painful menses, lung diseases, hay fever, Crohn’s disease, chronic fatigue syndrome, preeclampsia, preterm labor...the list goes on and on.
2. They turn on lipolytic genes; the genes responsible for fat burning, and turn off lipogenic genes; the fat storing gene.
3. Fish oils increase serotonin levels; the happy neurotransmitter, which correlates to decreased incidences of depression, anxiety, and panic attacks, reducing carbohydrate cravings.
4. They reduce inflammation from physical training. One of the fatty acids in fish oil—Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)—has the greatest effect on reducing inflammation through its downstream metabolites known as resolvins. Fewer resolvins in the body equates to reduced inflammation, reduces chance of human disease and increased capacity for fat loss.
This is just the tip of the fish oil iceberg. Keep your eyes open for more insight into the other—and extensive—benefits of fish oils in the next two weeks.
